My name is Amelia Garvey

I was born in England, but my golfing journey started on the small practice grounds of Kaiapoi Golf Club in New Zealand at the age of 6. Being the tomboy I am, I played several sports growing up, so I only had time to play golf a few days a week. On the days I could play, I’d be out there from dawn until dusk.

I would often find myself begging to be picked up later than my parents wanted due to my absolute obsession with the sport.

As an all-around athlete, I’ve been able to develop skills that have enhanced my game further than some of my competitors. My different perspective and accomplishments set me apart, allowing me to be a strong, positive female influence in the game of golf. This is what drives me to push my limits, be creative, and curious to try new things that have never been done.

My Golfing History:

My golfing career started to get serious when I qualified for my first New Zealand Open at the age of 13, making me the second youngest at the time (behind Lydia Ko).
From there at the age of 14 I was selected into the New Zealand Development Squad providing me with opportunities to increase my travel for competitions domestically and internationally.
When I was 15 I was able to prove my talent by winning the New Zealand South Island Championship by 12 shots. Notably being 18 under par through 3 rounds.
I then went on to claim the New Zealand Strokeplay Championship at 15 under par, winning by 6 shots.
Shortly after these successes I accepted a scholarship to play golf at the University of Southern California in 2018
Since being at college I have been able to test my skills against the best players in the world on an international stage.
Starting college, I was ranked 300th on the World Amateur Golf Rankings and as of May 2020 I am currently sitting at number 27.
I have achieved All American honors for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, helping my team be ranked number 1 in the nation.
My consistent performances over the last three years in college have been highlighted by Finishing T7th at the NCAA championship in 2019.
I then went on to play in several events in the UK, culminating in a runner up finish at the 2019 British Women’s Amateur.
It was a thrilling 36 hole final where I only narrowly missed taking the honors from England’s Emily Toy. Onward and upward!
